Dr. Mikao Kyoho Usui [1865-1926] developed what is now known as
Reiki, towards the end of the 19th Century. Dr. Usui was a Japanese philosopher who searched for understanding of how the great teachers of the main world religions had been able to heal. He spent many years searching and had many disappointments until, after a long period of fasting, he was given understanding about healing. He first used Reiki on himself and then tried it out on his own family. Following personal success, he opened a clinic in 1922 for healing and ran workshops to share his knowledge. He died of a stroke in 1926 aged 62. Dr. Usui's students carried on his work.
Reiki in the west today comes, almost entirely, from the teaching of Mrs Takata who was taught by Dr. Hayashi, who was one of Dr. Usui's students.
Bowen is a dynamic, remedial body technique, that is extremely gentle and very relaxing. It empowers the body's own healing resources achieving balance and harmony, resulting in fast and lasting relief from pain and discomfort.
Bowen is an all embracing vibrational energy therapy, safe to use on anyone, newborns to the elderly, with any condition from sports injuries to chronic or organic complaints.
A treatment comprises sequences of small gentle moves, each at a specific site on the body. There is not forceful manipulation, just a light cross-fibre maneuvering of a muscle, tendon or ligament, pleasant to the recipient.
Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands, feet and ears that correspond to every part, gland and organ of the body.
Through application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and promotes the natural function of the related areas of the body.
In ancient times we stimulated reflexes naturally by walking barefoot over rocks, stones and rough ground, or by using our hands more often to climb, build or work. In today's modern world we have lost much of nature's way of maintaining a balanced and healthy equilibrium. Reflexology helps to restore this balance and promote natural health and vitality.
Although Reflexology does not diagnose or treat specific ailments by definition, it has proven highly successful over time to relieve symptoms or ease pain or discomfort that have manifested themselves physically in the body - either as a result of stress, trauma or disease.
